CHRISTCHURCH, this day

A 40-hour five-day week and a minimum wage of £5 10s were granted to Canterbury engineers and draughts-

men in their first award, which was issued by the Arbitration Court today. Civil and architectural draughtsmen are excluded from the award. Under the award all work done in excess of the specified hours will count as overtime, to bo paid for at the rate of time and a-half for the first four hours and double time thereafter. One week’s annual holiday on full pay is also granted.
