SHOOTING OF BIRDS
MINISTER’S ATTITUDE ANSWER TO PROTEST (Par Press Association.) WELLINGTON, this day. Although he was strongly opposed to crueltv, he was not opposed to the shooting' of birds in the open, the Minister of Internal Affairs, the Hon. W E. Parry, told a deputation from the New Zealand Federation of the Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals when he was asked yesterday to pass legislation restricting certain sporting activities. The shooting of birds in the open was a training in character, he said, and the shooting of pigeons in gun trials was practically confined to ex.pert shots, who could kill their birds instantaneously.
