COLLAPSE OF BRIDGE

TRACTOR IN STREAM BED PROBLEM OF EXTRICATION The 15-ton tractor which was travelling from Edgecumbe into the afforestation country near Taupo under its own power crashed through an old wooden bridge across the Pokairoa Stream on the Te Teko-Murpara road, about 20 miles from Te Teko, on Wednesday morning. The driver escaped unhurt, and ihe tractor is believed to be undamaged.

fjje machine, which is one of the largest of the crawler type seen in New Zealand, is now stuck fast on its rear end in the narrow stream bed, the banks of which are from 15ft. to 20ft. high. It is thought that the extrication of the tractor from its present position will prove a very difficult task.

The engineer of the Whakatane County Council, Mr. C. H. Bremner, will visit the scene of the mishap with members of his staff to assist the crew of two in getting the machine on to the road again.
