Round the Tracks

/s/s^VSA (By "Cynic. ")*>*~w~~£

Despite the cold morning, practically all the horses in training were exercised in Gisborne yesterday, the track being very on the slow side.

Quaint was the first .to work, running six furlongs at three-quarter pace. The bay marc is coming back to her best.

Rana IT. Dornan) worked lazily over a round, having to be kept up to his work.

Hunting Star (Goscomb) was given a t'airlv easy task and apparently is doing well oil the light preparation.

Singing Gold (Dunn) was going slightly better than Skyway in a sprint over tour furlongs. Both are on tin up grade.

Ihu IRangi) hit out in his usual free, style over a round. The brown gelding is a very free worker and a fine mover.

Ha-Ha (Kerr) and Huntette's (Dornan) were extended over two furlongs. The former, who is more seasoned, pleased most, but both go well.

Ua-Ia (Dornan) was worked on the hurdle track and seemed to handle the soft-going well. The mare is well forward.

Small Boy (Lee) went very freely over two rounds on the hurdle track. The brown gelding is carrying some Hood condition and is a typical hurdle horse.

Grand Snort (Dornan) hit out freely >ver a round on the course proper and ie is one that appreciates the soft gong-

Big Dook (Lee) and Good Hunting (Tinsley) were companions over a mile on the inside grass. They were not after time, and both horses bear a well-trained appearance.

Lordly Knight (Dornan) went a strong round on the inside grass. The bay gelding looks well to the eye.

Hunting Mars (McDonald), making his first appearance for some time. was given a mixed task, sprinting along the back.

Hinepit (Martin) was given a round at a strong half-pace, shaping well on the soft ground.

Kitchenette (Lorigan) was hitting out very strongly in her work. She is now a very fit mayor, and is at home on a soft track.

Warstep's colt (Lee) was given ar :asy task.

Defend (Lorigan) <vent pleasingly over two rounds. The chestnut mare is well forward and should be able to show her best at the coming meeting.

Pirima (Dunn) was set a light task

Mahala (Donnelly) was given strong half-pace work, moving evenly and well.

Bothwell, with his trainer in Unsaddle, was given strong pace work, on which he is doing exceptionally well.

Mendelssohn (Nixon), Flying Com;dy (Kellett), and Pakeha's filly were given barrier practice, J. Zuppicich officiating at the barrier.

Rapa Waiata (Dunn) was given a mixed task on the hurdle track. The bav gelding is on the up grade.

Brown Lap (R. Russell) was going rery freely in his task of two strong rounds.

The Luminant filly and Dragor; Queen were both given easy tasks.

Jayola (R. Russell) was another set a light task. The colt is making ;teady progress.

Ruinette (Kerr) ran three furlongs n 40sec, this being her first gallop iince racing last summer.

Golden Blonde (Tinsley) went very reely over a round on the hurdle rack. The chestnut filly never looked better than at present.

Pennycomequick, Gay Hunter, and Mailman were all given light mixed tasks.

Svmconv and Vulpes were not vorked on the track, and were probblv given hill work. Both are doing veil on that form of training.

Defray is still on the idle list, a remark that also applies to Marching Song, who is still suffering from the effects of a fall.

Tauranga form worked out well at Trentham. Dutch Girl, Maori Song, Enge, Jewelled Girdle, and Chang were all dividend players at that meeting.
