MADRID AIR BATTLE
SUCCESS OF LOYALISTS OFFENSIVE DEVELOPING REBELS CAPTURE TANKER (Klec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. July 8, 3 p.m.) VALENCIA, July 7. The loyalists claim the best of a fierce air battle over Madrid. Twenty Government planes engaged a superior number of rebels and crashed eight and lost one machine.
Madrid's offensive with the object of breaking the rebel front and re* lieving the pressure in the north is developing into one of the biggest battles of the war.
At Bordeaux local rebel supporters seized the loyalist tanker Campo Amor, which lay a.t anchor laden with petrol. They overpowered and battened down 2ti members of the crew, and departed for a Spanish rebel port. Fourteen of the crew who had shore leave are destitute.
