AUSTRALIAN SHEARING
GOOD START MADE "NO HINT OP TROUBLE" SYDNEY, July 2. It was stated yesterday that everything pointed to the fact that the new shearing award, which came into operation yesterday, had been received with satisfaction by the shearers. The Graziers' Co-operative Shearing Company reported that work on its behalf had been started in nine sheds with full boards, employing more than 220 men, and that there had not been any hint of the trouble that agitators had been threatening.
"Men are applying freely for work," said an official of the company, "and it is evident that the threats of a shearing strike and of non-acceptance of the new award emanate from unemployed, who are not shearers, or from shearers who, having no early sheds to go to, tried to cause trouble and dissuade the regular shearers from accepting work. Shearers have been duped so often by this propaganda that they are beginning to realise just what is behind it. There is an increasing desire to abide by Arbitration Court awards, and everything indicates a satisfactory shearing this year."
