The authorities are popularising horseflesh consumption under the fouryear plan. The Horseflesh Guild, during the course of its first meeting at Dusseldorf, pointed out that the Germans’ ancestors enjoyed horseflesh on ceremonial occasions. Though Christianity discouraged its consumption as a heathen custom, it was more nutritious than beef, veal or pork. There are now 25 Horseflesh Guilds in Germany embracing 1200 businesses.
