£2,000,000 TO BE SPENT
DEAL WITH AMERICA
LONDON, June 15.
Alexander Korda, the head of London Films, on returning from Hollywood, is reported to have announced a plan to spend £2,000,000 on the production of 28 British films before the end of 1938.
It is stated that he and Samuel Goldwyn are completing a deal with Mary Pickford, Douglas Fairbanks, and Charles Chaplin, by which they will secure joint control of United Artists.
Korda explained: “This means that the cost of the world-wide distribution of my British-made films will be reduced to the level of Americanmade films.”
The principal stars in Korda’s coming films will be Robert Donat and Merle Oberon, but it ha 3 been agreed that all English and American stars and directors under contract to United Artists shall be shared. Several of the films will be in colour.
