POISON GAS CRY
LOYALISTS ACCUSED BERLIN REVELATIONS ACIDS SENT FROM RUSSIA SUSPICIONS OF EMBASSY (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. July 8, noon) LONDON, July 7.
The German newspapers are suddenly alleging that the Spanish Government troops are using poison gas and are preparing large quantities for future use.
The production of large supplies of poison gas, according to the Nationalists, began three months ago under orders from Moscow. The necessary acids, which were not obtainable in Spain, were taken in from the Russian Black Sea ports. The Government is making a feverish effort to supply its troops with gas masks, fearing retaliation.
The Spanish Embassy denies that the Government troops are using poison gas. The Embassy stated: "A campaign has begun in the Italian and German press with suspicious unanimity and noise. The Government directs world opinion to the anxiety with which it regards this new ruse of totalitarian States.”
