To-day’s singles, which were played in incessant rain, resulted: — Picard (U.S.A.) defeated Lacey, two and one. Sarazen (U.S.A.I defeated Allis, one up. Dudley (U.S.A.) defeated Perry, two and one. Cotton (Britain) defeated Manero, five and three. Rees (Britain) defeated Nelson, three and one. Snead (U.S.A.) defeated Burton, live and four. Guldahl (U.S.A.) defeated Padgham, eight and seven. The match between King (Britain) and Shute was halved. Padgham said that he was so dismayed with his own form that he lias not decided whether it is worth defending the open title.
