ANOTHER DEFEAT

N.Z, CRICKETERS DECLARED TOO SOON SIX WICKETS FOR 227 LANCS MAKE 196 FOR TWO (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Reed. June 2, 11 a.m.) MANCHESTER, June 1. The New Zealand cricketers showed more confidence and aggression in their batting to-day, scoring freely, but Lancashire forced a win after a declaration had been made by New Zealand. Hadlee and Moloney carefully took the score to 53. Donnelly then enterprisingly forced the pace, hitting four fours and a.three and scoring a run a minute.

While Hadlee pursued his unhurried way, Wallace attacked with vigour and grace, piercing the field with well-placed and well-timed strokes ami hitting 10 fours in his first 50 and 17 fours altogether. His driving and hooking was a treat to watch. Hadlee, batted wim great patience, staying for, 2| hours while. 172 was compiled. The declartion left the county 2J hours to make 196.

A catch at silly mid-on gave a wicket in the first over to Cowie, but. Paynter and Iddon, becoming set, rattled on 113 in 75 minutes before a good catch was made at cover by Wallace. Iddon and Oldfield, hitting almost every ball, maintained the pace. and Weir were relied on mainly to slow down the scoring, two catches being dropped in one over from the former. Cowie was used for short spells and Donnelly was given a trial late in' the innings. Page, bowling designedly, succeeded jn breaking the first-wicket partnership. The attendance was only a few hundreds, Tuesday being an off day for cricket in Manchester.
