HOUSING SURVEY
GISBORNE CONTRACT ■ ( £255 TENDER ACCEPTED The Gisborne Borough Council last night accepted the tender of the Associated Registered Architects, Gisborne, to conduct a housing survey of the borough. The amount of the tender was £255 15s. The duty of the contractors is to supply information on all houses in the borough. When the contract is completed, the Borough Council will collate the information, which will be forwarded to the Government. In the first instance, the contractors must secure much information from householders. All occupants of each house, their ages and sex, whether married or single, employed or unemployed. The householders also must state whether they rent or own the property, whether rented furnished or unfurnished. They must state why they are living in that particular locality, whether it is because the rent is low or whether it is close to employment.
A .survey of each building is also carried out, special note being made of the condition ,tho sanitary accommodation and the nature of the construction, whether it be of wood jj>r brick. When two schedules for the above information are filled }n and delivered to the Borough Council, the responsibility of the contractors ceases, 'lhe council will thou till in further forms, taking its information from the contractors’ schedules. Included in this work is the preparation of a survey map of the whole borough, any building below a required standard being marked. This map will then be forwarded to the Government.
