Light to strong northerly breezes were general. The barometer had commenced a falling movement. at 9 o’clock were: Auckland and' East (Jape 60 degrees. Taur,align 61, Upotiki 57, Gisborne 52. Napier 58. and Wellington 56. Rough seas were, reported at Tiritiri; elsewhere moderate op smooth. Last Night’s Forecast An anticyclone is moving eastwards off New Zealand, and an extensive and father deep depression is approaching slowly across the Tasman Sea. The forecast js for winds, north-easterly to northerly, strong in parts of the Cook and Foveaux Straits ai'eas, otherwise light to moderate, at first, but freshening generally, and later reaching gale force at many places. A change, to southerlies is probable by to-morrow morning in the southern portion of the ,South Island. ,Seas in New Zealand waters will he rather rough south of Cape Egmont and about Cook arid Foveaux Straits, elsewhere slight to moderate, but later rising generally. In the eastern Tasman Sea there will be northerly winds of strong 10 gale force, with rough seas. Tint weather will be unsettled, with rain developing soon in the western and far •southern portions of the South Island, elsewhere fair,' to cloudy at first,, hut dull and misty conditions and general rain is probable within the next day or two. Temperatures wall be mild. Midday Forecast General inference.—A deep and extensive cyclonic depression covers the central and southern portions of the Tasman Sea and is moving in an eastsouth leash erly direct ion.
