2577 IN GISBORNE

ONLY 1520 DRIVERS

BUSY DAY YESTERDAY

Up until 3.30 p.m. to-day, only 1529 drivers’ licenses had been issued by the Gisborne Borough Council, compared with 2736 for the whole of last year. The number of motor registrations at the Chief Post Office in Gisborne up to last night was 2577, which was a bigger number than issued to June 1 last year. Vesterday was Ihe busiest day of the present period, when 302 registrations were effected. A steady stream of motor owners was still being dealt with to-dav.

The Cook County Council had issued 1164 drivers’ licenses up to 3.30 p.m. to-dav.

A record has been established this year in the issue ol drivers licenses by the city traffic department, the total last night reading 4968, compared with 4432 hist year. Yesterday, the last- day on which the old licenses were usable, saw a one-day record of 955 issued.
