FCVRTNTCf TTTTiY MEETING' The Gisborne Borough Council met last night, there being present: The Mayor, Mr. I). \V. Coleman, M.P., Crs. &. Bradley Smith, 11'. K. Maude, H. Holmes, P. W. Busline]]. ,T. Webb, 0. S. Thompson, .T. 11. [fall, V. It. Hull and H. H. BeCosta. Messrs. Grant and Cook sought approval of a subdivision plan comprising the purchase of land by the Okitu Co-operative Dairy Company, Limited, from the Roman Catholic Church and for a subdivision in Lowe street. —Approval was given. Messrs. Burr and Mirfield sought > permission on behalf of the Gisborne 1 Theatre Company to erect partitions ' in a room leading from the foyer of the Regent Theatre in timber framing ? lined on both sides in plaster boards. , —ft was decided to reply that the bvi 1 laws must be adhered to. ; Messrs. Burr and Mirfield asked permission to erect a building for Mr. Byrne, Wairoa, with one side wall of : I corrugated asbestos sheeting pending ; lan extension to occupy the whole ’ frontage at 36S Gladstone road.—Approval was given. Mr. -T. A. Booth sought permission to plant palms on the footpath on ’ the south side of Bayly street. —Permission was granted providing the work was done to the engineer’s requirements. The Mayor reported on an inspection made by a special committee ol a fence and hedge encroaching on. a footpath in .Tellicoe street. He said the committee had to admit that a I very nice job had been made, but ! nearly the whole of the footpath was | taken up. The committee had decided to instruct the owner to remove 'the fence, but the tenant had done . a lot of work, and desired the fence to remain. The committee now proposed that the hedge should be removed but the fence allowed to remain.—The committecHs proposal was endorsed. REPORTS Works Committee Tn its report the works committee stated:— “Contemplated Works. —A list of contemplated works for the fortnight was submitted by the engineer, the I principal works being cleaning of open I drains, top-dressing croquet lawns, and erection of sliding doors to enclose the open section of the pavilion at the Rutene Road Reserve; the placing of the culvert at Reynolds Creek has been completed, also the formation of a ear-turning place at Te Poho-o-rawiri, and car-passing places on Haiti Bill. Material has been ordered for fencing the river end of McLean, Fox and Sheehan streets. The report was adopted.
