21 ST BIRTHDAY PARTY

(Herald Correspondent.) A surprise party organised by the young people of Alotu in ‘honour of Air. if. Begg’s twenty-first birthday was held at the home of Air. and Airs. G. Begg on Saturday night. The drawing-room was arranged witli card tables, and in the living-room dancing and games kept the young people happily entertained. During the supper interval musical honours were accorded Air, Begg. Amongst those present were Mr. and Mrs. J. Adams, Mr. and Alt's. F. J. Reed, Air. and Ms-s. J. R. Donaldson, Mr. and Airs. E. P. Fisher, and Air. and Airs. R. F. Jackson; Mesdairies T. Jackson, W. Can-on and Walters ; Misses J. and P. Twisleton, B. and jVI. Fisher, F. Moffatt, Al. Jackson, K. and D. Donaldson, P. and K. Hutchins, E. Can-on, Al. Derecourt, P. Grantham, and E. Pearse; Messrs. P. AlacDonald, J. Goodall, Iv. Cole, J. and H. Party, L. Castles, F. Bovle, G. Cai-min, P. Kenny, J. .Lloyd, R. Payne, T. Thompson, 11. Twisleton, C. and G. Derecourt, T. Gillgren, R. Hansen, S. E. and F. Donaldson, H. and F. Burburgh, G. Beets, W. Bain, L. Rhynd, and T. Scholium.

Arrangements for the R.S.A. Ball to he held at Alotu on Juno 11 are well in hand, and it is hoped to make this function an outstanding success. Coming so soon after the Coronation, special attention is being paid to the decorative scheme and the committee is making every effort to uphold the high standard attained by the local organisation at all previous functions.

Afr. and Mrs J. J. Brownlie. Ruatoria, are the guests of Mrs. G. A. Smith, Whakarau.—Miss C. Guthrie Smith and Mr. David Smith, Whakarau, have returned from Wellington, where they fnrewelled Aliss L. Yates, who. is returning to England after spending some months touring in New Zealand. —Aliss IT. Prestwich is the gnest of Airs. 11. L. Twisleton. Afarumoko.
