Strong opposition to the national defence contribution despite the modifications recently announced, continued to he expressed by ollicial. commercial and industrial interests and it is probable that during the debate to-morrow the Chancellor of the Exchequer, Sir John Simon, will he urged to set up a departmental committee to work out a simpler scheme to he introduced as a separate measure at a later stage.
