Speaking in the House of Commons, the Chancellor of (lie Exchequer, Sir John Simon, defended the special tax as a national defence, contribution. jlc said that the concessions in a full year would cost about .£5,000.000. '1 lie Lax yield would be about ,£15,000,000. Dr. Hugh Dalton (Lab., Bishop Auckland) moved the rejection ol the Finance Bill. Sir John Wardlaw Milne (Con., Kidderminster) and several other Conservatives criticised the lax. The debate was adjourned.
