DEATH OF BANKER
OPERATION AT SEA
NOTED NEW YORK MAN
(Reed. Mav ,31. 3 p.m.) HONOLULU, .May 30. Mr. George F. Baker, the Now York banker, died early this morning.
A message dispatched from New Y ork on Friday staled that associates ol Mr. George F. Baker, the noted New York banker, announced that his life lead been saved when his steam yacht V iking made a rendezvous with tho liner Niagara, two days from Honolulu, on Thursday, interrupting her voyage from Auckland to Vancouver for two and a half hours while the liner’s surgeon, Dr. W. Clarke, and a nurse hoarded tho Viking and operated upon Mr. Baker lor peritonitis. It was stated that Ylr. Baker would be transferred to hospital on the yacht’s arrival at Honolulu, which she was expected to reach on (Saturday. A subsequent radio message from the Viking stated that a turn for the worse in Mr. Baker's condition later occurred.
