TOKOMARU BAY NEWS

BOWLING CLUB SOCIAL (Herald Correspondent.) The members of the Tokotnnru Bay Bowling Club gave a very enjoyable social evening on Saturday in the pavilion, in honour of the ladies. The large reception room was artistically decorated with streamers of the chib colours, brown and gold, and bowls of autumn foliage. Mr. .1. Corbett, who proved an efficient M.C.. had arranged an excellent programme of items and dance numbers. Miss D. Conole presided at. the piano, and extras wore contributed by Messrs. A. P. (hr and X. East. At intervals toasts were, proposed to "Tho King and Queen.” "The Ladies,” and “The Bowling Club.” and were n i u.si ca Ily 1 1 onomed. The president. Air. F. Thompson, then presented the cups and trophies which had been won during Ihe .season, and congratulated the winners on their success. Special mention was made ol the achievement of Mr. H. S. Short, who not only won the club championship. ln.it who also put, Tokomarn Bay on the map in I lie howling circle by winning the centre championship in Gisborne. Other presentations were made to Mr. O. Olliver, the junior champion, and to Messrs. A. L. Walker and F. R. Brown, the winners of the pairs championship. Mi-. J. Savage was presented with the "Frothbiowers” trophy, and Air. P. Western won the "Bow-wow ’ trophy. The cups and trophies made a brilliant display, together with the coveted Ciieno Cup, which is a trophy held for City v. Waima competitions. At the conclusion of this ceremony, a presentation of a fountain pen was made to Mr. D. Bullock, who is shortly severing his connection with the club and leaving for Wellington on transfer. Air. Bullock suitably responded, and thanked his fellow club members for the interest they had shown towards new players. Those who contributed vocal items were. Mrs. A. N. \\ ilkins, Messrs. C. Lark, J. Corbett, J. Savage, J. Jackson and F. Thompson. Supper was served informally at, a late hour, and the National Anthem ended a, happy evening. Those present included Mesdames IT. Short. J. Miss M. Corbett, limitation, is spending her animal holidays in Auckland.— Miss 15. Doig, Tokomarn Bay, left on annual holidays at the week-end and will be the guest of Mrs. It. Hood. Auckland.—Mrs. A. P. Orr has returned to Tokomarn Bay after spending a few days in Gisborne. —Mr. and Mrs. D. McKay and their small son, John, who have been staying with Mr. and Mrs. J. Wilson in Tokomarn Bay, returned to their home in Huntcrvillc at the weekend. — Mrs. \V. (kites has returned homo after visiting relatives in Dniinovirke. Mr. and Mrs. G. Glenn and Miss Li nicy Glynn were recent visitors to Gisborne.— Mr. 1). Malcolm, Wailalmia, is oil a holiday visit, to Auckland.—Mr. and Mrs. J. Mill, accompanied by their two small daughters, Beverley and Palsy, loft their homo at Brimmer, Tokomarn Bay, hist week-end on a holiday visit to Queensland, anil will bo absent for several months. Mr. Bon Binder, Kopuawhara, recently visited his mother in Tokomarn Bay. Mr. F. Jackson returned to Tokomarn Bay last week nfler a short, visit to Rotorua. —Mrs. J. Hoag, limit,anoa. left recently to spend a holiday in Auckland. Mrs.’G. Chalmers, llmitmioa, has been spending a few days with her parents, Mr. mid Mrs. C. Ferris, Gisborne.— Messrs. D. Felton and W.
