Miss Marion Calcott, who spent the vacation with her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Walter Calcott, Matawai. returned to the Training 1 College, Auckland, on Saturday morning. Mr. T. Kelly, New Zealand director and general (manager oi Wbolworths (New Zealand). Limited, arrived in Gisborne yesterday morning in the course nf a tour of the North Island. He left this morning for Rotorua. Mr. H. P. Hamilton, secretary of the Okitu Co-operative .Dairy Company, Limited, returned last night, from a holiday trip to the Waikato and Auckland.

The Minister of Public Works am Transport, the Hon. li. Semple, and Mrs, Semple, together with Mr. .1 Wood, engincer-in-cliief of the I'ublii Works Department, left Gisborne yes ferday for Wairoa, where Mr. and Mi> Semple intend spending a few days.

Mr. S. Freeman, Dominion organising socretwy of tbc Young Farmers' Club movement, who at the invitation of Mr. K. M. Bates, loral district organiser, attended .Saturday night's conference of young farmers, left Gisborne yesterday morning to return to his headquarters in Wellington.

Mr. A. Gordon Hultquist, M.P., left Gisborne yesterday' for his homo in Whakatano, after accompanying the. Hon. R. Semplc, Minister of Public Works and Transport, on a tour of the Bay of Plenty electorate last week. Mr. Hultquist intends returning on Tuesday to address district committees at ' Kaitaratnhi, and on Wednesday he will oflicially open the Waikohu Boxing Club's season at To Karaka.

An interesting visitor at Saturday night's reunion in Gisborne of the South African Veterans, was Mr. James ('arson, Palmerston North, the son of a Crimean War veteran of the 57th regiment of foot, "The Diehard*," now the Middlesex Regiment, who after the war took his discharge in England, and emigrated to iNew Zealand about 1866, and was the holder of two medals for that war, English with three clasps—Sebastapool, lukerman (the soldiers' battle). and Balaclava, and also the medal issued by the Turkish Government. Mr. Carson is in business in Palmerston North, and meeting Mr. I. Lindon, the Gisborne vice-president, at the recent Coronation ceremonies, promised that after the conclusion of a business conference, which he was attending in Auckland, he would return home via Gisborne, and attend the reunion and the church parade here. Mr. Carson lost two sons in the last war, and wears on his right breast bis father's and sons' medals.

\ tribute was paid to Mr. P. Collin, the president of 'the Gisborne branch of the South African Veterans Association, by Mr. George Crawshaw at the reunion' on Saturday night. Mr. Collin had kept flic association together for the past tew years, said Mr. Crawshaw, but be hoped that his residence in Tokomaru Ray would not prevsnt him remaining on the executive. In reply, Mr. fjollin said he had done his best and was sorry he bad to leave Gisborne, but was afraid that he would be compelled to relinquish his executive position, though ho would remain active in the interests of the association. 1 Itpaid a compliment to the secretary, Mr. ,1. V. Scott, and the other members of the executive, and referred also to the help Riven in the past by Mr. A. Znchariah, who was now in Australia. It was decided to send Mr. Zachariah a letter from the reunion in appreciation of his work.
