N.Z. CRICKETERS WIN DEFEAT OF CAMBRIDGE WALLACE’S FINE STAND MOLONEY’S FIVE VICTIMS (From the Special Representative of the United Press Association.) (Reed; May 28, 11 a.m.) CAMBRIDGE, May 27. The New Zealand cricketers to-day secured their second win of'the tour, when they defeated Cambridge by eight wickets. Replying to the ’varsity’s first innings score of 102, the visitors made 135. Cambridge were then dismissed again for 128, and New Zealand secured the required number of runs for the loss of two wickets. Fraser, a slow left-hander, threatened a New Zealand collapse, but Wallace, hitting 10 fours and a sixer, made a superb stand. Giving a stylish display of footwork on drives mid square-cuts, he made a rock-like defence and saved the day, assisting the score from four wickets for 4G to 135. , .... ..." .
There was a tense situation Avhen 10 runs were wanted to equal the ’varsity score. Cowie stonewalled and Wallace collared the bowling, scoring 40 out of the last wicket stand of 41.
Cambridge opened tlieir second innings .with dogged determination, Payton and Yardley taking 80 minutes to score five runs. Then there was a period of lapse in the fielding, Payton giving chances off Gallichan and Moloney, but the wicket was now perfect and Moloney took the next five wickets with 11 balls.
