East week a bittern was seen walking above the swamps at Alangahnnea, about 11, miles front RtiAtoria. These birds are exceptionally rare on the Coast and it is to he hoped that people will do their utmost to protect them. Also recently a bat was seen at Waipiro Bay at dusk one evening. Much interest was taken in its flight, and after flying round in an uncertain manner it disappeared above the roof of Miss Beale’s residence.— Special.
