AIR FORCE APPOINTMENTS
29 NEW ZEALANDERS MAJORITY FOR. ENGLAND MANY CANDIDATES OFFER (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. The candidates selected for appointment to short service commissions in the Royal Air Force and the Royal New Zealand Air Force were announced this evening by the Minister of Defence, the Hon. F. .Tones. Applications for these appointments were invited at the etui of March. .Twenty-nine candidates so far have been appointed —four to short service commissions in the Royal New Zealand Air Force, seven for training in Nejv Zealand prior to ap: pointment to short service commissions in the Royal Air Force, and 18 for direct entry into the Royal Air Force.
“All the applicants who complied with the minimum requirements as to age and education were interviewed by the selection committee, and as a result, .1(57 candidates were selected for medical examination,” said Mr. .Tones. He explained that the final result of all medical examinations was not yet complete, but that it was now possible to announce that the following candidates had been selected for appointment for short service commissions in the Royal New Zealand Air Force:— H. P. B. Dive, Waitoa. D. H. Ward, Whangarei. A. N. Johnstone, Manurcwa, Auckland. A. Robertson, Auckland. These candidates will be required to report at the Wigram aerodrome, Christchurch, on June 8, for training. The following have been chosen for training in New Zealand prior to appointment to short service commissions in the Royal Air Force: — J. I). Carmichael, Christchurch. S. W. R. Hughes, Auckland. lv. E. Newton, Okoroire. T. G. Bassett, Dargaville. C. AV. Bromley, Christchurch. V. S. Reynolds, Lower Hutt. T. B. Fitzgerald, Temuka. The above candidates also will be required to present themselves at Wigram aerodrome, Christchurch, on June S. The following have been selected lor direct entry into the Royal Air Force: D. Carlson, Auckland. T. N. Silk, Wanganui. A. C. Glenday, Christchurch. K. N. Gray, Wanganui. K. J. A. Johnstone, Auckland. ,\. W. Nelson, Wellington. K. F. Vare, Wellington. P. Shennan, Wellington. R. W. McCarthy, Christchurch. W. R. McCloud), Auckland. .T. R. Neill, Dunedin. Iv. N. Rea, Taranaki. G. D. M. Roberts, West Coast, S.I. R. A. Robertson, Taranaki. 11. A. Trcnchard, AVellington. AV. D. Tuc.kwell, AVellington. G. F. Tallon, Canterbury. AV. McClelland, Canterbury. Most of these candidates will be required to leave New Zealand early in July, but they will each be advised by letter within the next few days. The appointment of an engineerofficer to a permanent commission in the Royal New Zealand Air Force has not yet been finalised, but it is expected that an announcement concerning this will be made within the next few days.
