DISAPPOINTMENT VOICED

SCALE OF STATE RENTALS OPINION OF ARCHBISHOP. TRADE UNION OFFICIALS (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, this day. "Very disappointing," said Archbishop Averill in replying to an interviewer concerning the rents announced by the Government for the State houses. "1 was anxious to see provision mado for married people in order to encourage families,'' added His Grace. "My view is that houses of moderate rentals should have been built." Trades union officials confessed to disappointment at the scale of the rentals, but explained that they were not unreasonable in view of the building costs and the prevailing rentals. One suggestion was that the scale was an indication of the need for the Arbitration Court to fix a higher living wage and for the Government to take steps to produce building materials.
