FORGERY BY MAORI CASE FROM THE COAST A sentence of 12 months' hard labour was passed by the Chief Justice, Sir .Michael Myers', on a Maori. Watene lluihiii, win) 'appeared before him in the Supreme Coin! to-day, having been.committed for sentence from Ituatoria after pleading guilty to a. charge of forging the name of another Maori as an endorsement of a cheque, and causing Wilfred Ifattnell Hitchcock to ail. upon if as if it were genuine, The prisoner was not, represented by counsel, and in reply to the formal questions of the court, stated that, lie had no representations to make to the judge. He admitted two previous convictions, but His Honour commented that he did not propose to take these into consideration, as the offences had occurred some time ago and were of a different character from that on which the prisoner was to be sentenced. The .sentence was that Huihui should be held for 12 months at hard labour.
