LINER TO RESCUE
PROVISIONS FOR 1 SCHOONER TRANSFER AT SEA (Special to the Herald.) AUCKLAND, this day. Becalmed for days in the Carribean Sea and unable to mako port to replenish her dwindling provisions, the small schooner Cedcrhank was supplied with food by the Shaw, Savill and Albion liner Tamaroa during her voyage from London to Auckland. The Tamaroa arrived at Auckland last evening.
The schooner, which was manned by natives, was of about 20 tons and was engaged in trading in the West Indies. The vessel had been about a week at sea when she was sighted by the Tamaroa’s officers. A red ensign waved frantically by a member of the crew was the first indication of trouble, and when the liner redueod her speed a boat put off and went alongside the Tamaroa. Broad and other food were supplied from the Tamaroa, which later continued her voyage south through the Carribean Sea.
