AY lien a heavy shell burst near Private Thomas Webster, ol’ the ISth Tint ta lion, A.T.F., during a terrific German barrage on the Australian lines at Piers, in DUO, a Bible and a packet of field-service post-cards in bis tunic pocket probably saved bis life. A piece of the high explosive ripped the edge of the Bible and tore its way through the post-cards. Webster was wounded, and when lie regained consciousness lie saw bis Bible hanging from his torn pocket, lie managed to grasp it as the stretcher-bearers carried him through a sea of mud io ibe casualty clearing station, lie retained possession of it during six months in hospital, and eventually brought it home with him I<> Australia. Yesterday, the liev. Wynn, of the J laiikslown Gongregat ional Church, read the lesson from MM i\ Webster’s Bible at the Anzae Day service at the church.
