Fraser, has announced that the average weekly rents likely for dwellings being constructed under the State housing scheme are .as follows: Three-roomed flat, without a sun porch, in a two-unit house, .El : throeroomed ilat, with sun porch, in a twounit house. £1 2s 6d. Four-roomed house, £l. 7s 6d; four roomed house with sun porch, £1 9s. Five-roomed house, £1 10s 6d; five roomed house with sun porch. £1 12s Six-roomed house, £1 13s 6d. All rents will he subject to a rebate of 2s 6d weekly for good tenancy. The rent for a six-roomed house with a sun porch and garage has not yet been determined. The rents would vary according to the locality and site. It was proposed to charge these rents throughout New Zealand. Ample provision would be made for maintenance, the interruption of tenancy, and cost of management, etc. Tt was shortly proposed to erect some concrete houses for which the rents probably would be. less. In the light of experience, the position would he reviewed in 12 months and the rents could be fixed permanently. The department was considering the erection of houses suitable for elderly couples on slender incomes. No doubt those bouses would form a feature of future schemes.
