TOURING SOCCER TEAM
ENGLISH AMATEURS WELCOME TO NEW ZEALAND SIDE POP. OPENING GAME. (Per Press Association.) AUCKLAND, lost night. Thoroughly fir after n pleasant voyage, the English amateur soccer, lentn, which will undertake a short tour of the Dominion during the next five week’s, arrived at Auckland tonight by the liner Tnmaroa. Tho team, which comprises IS players, is looking forward to an enjoyable visit, and Ip confident that it will show New Zealand crowds some good foot hall. The joint managers of the team are Mr. Wreford Drown and Mr. Thorne, while Mr. Stollery is coach. Mrs. Wreford Brown is also accompanying tho party, q'ho team was welcomed hy Mr. P. il. Campbell, vice-chairman of tDo New Zealand Football Association, Mr. L. Munro, chairman of the control board of the Auckland Poolball Association, and several members of tho Auckland body. There was also a fairly large gathering of players and enthusiasts.
'flic visitors will leave for Napier by l rain to-morrow afternoon.
They will be received by (be Gov-ei'nor-doneral, Viscount Galway, at Government House to-morrow morning. and will lie tendered a civic reception by the Mayor, Sir Ernest Davis', who is also president of the New Zealand and Auckland Pool ball Associations.
The following team has been chosen for the first, match of the visitors’ tour, against the combined Hawke’s Day-Poverty Day side, at Napier on Thursday: —L. T. Huddle, G. A. Strnsser, 11. S. Dobbins, .1. W. Lewis, D. Joy (captain), T. 11. Lee, E. C. Collins, S. Eastman, .It. .1. Matthews, l-O. Thornton, L. G. Pinch.
