ASSOCIATION MEETS
LOYALTY TO THRONE
EQUIPMENT OF GROUNDS
The monthly meeting of the Poverty Bay Agricultural and Pastoral Association, held to-day, was well attended and provided members with ample material for discussion in connection with preparations for the Show to he hep in October. fii opening the meeting the president, Mr"/ J. C. Graham, referred to the keen interest taken by the people of this district, as of all others throughout New Zealand, in the Coronation of King George VI, and Queen Elizabeth. The Coronation proceedings having been heard, through the medium of radio, In the homes of Their Majesties" subjects throughout the Empire, had held a special significance, Mr. Graham commented, in moving that the association record its devotion to the Sovereign and the' hope that the reign oE King George arid Queen Elizabeth would be long and happy. The motion was carried unanimously. Purchase of Railway Land The Minister of Railways, the Hon. D. G. Sullivan, wrote in reply to a letter frofti the association asking the Railway Department to sell to the association a BiriSll area of railway land adjoining the showgrounds. The Minister stated that afWr consideration, he was prepared to authorise the sale of the land at a price of £5, the legal costs to be borne by the purchaser.—On the motion of Mr. G. HI .pceats, the offer was accepted, the mover commenting that the offer was too good to miss. The meeting favoured a proposal by th* Aberdeen*Angus Cattle- Breeders' Association that it should supply to show associations a panel of judges for the breed.—The secretary, Mr. W. E. Chitmberlain, was authorised to attend the" annual conference of secretaries of NOrth Island A. and P. Associations, to bo" held in Palmerston North on June 16. The" tentative programme of the conference included an address by Mr. Chamberlain on special book-keeping systems iof A. and P. Associations' needs.
A donation of £2, representing a refund of a payment made to him by thtt association for cartingj was received from Mr. P. Mcßreen, with appreciation. Light and Power Discussion took place in respect of the" provision of electric lighting and power on a permanent installation tortSiH, and the grounds committee was asked to meet the patron, Mr. ViT. 11. Tucker, at his convenience to discuss the? most efficient means of installing the power facilities. The provision of an improved water supply also was discussed, and the grounds committee was authorised to defll with this matter likewise.
Jfr. F. Tolerton raised a question as to the suitability of Saturday as the monthly meeting day, pointing ottf" that now the town observed the htitf-holidny on Saturday it was not convenient for many farmers to -atteWd meetings on that day. Other speakers supported Air. Tolerton, and a Motion offered by .Mr. A. If. Russell, filing Thursday as" the day for future mOJithly meetings, found unanimous support. Committees Appointed A ground committee for tho ensuing yeSr was appointed, comprising Me'ssrs. G. H. Smith, A. C. Langford, G. 11. Sceats, J. Fivers, R. W. Coop, J. C. Field, and V. R. Caulton. The hotse section committee jwas reappointed, comprising Messrs. W. W. Smith, C. Tietjen, C. GatfkrOdger, C. Ws' L. Jex-Blake, 0. Onnerod, and L. C. Woodward.
