SHOOTING SEASON OPENS
CONDITIONS NOT GOOD
BAGS AT RErONGAERE
'When the shooting season opened this morning in the Poverty Pay district, there, were a large number of guns out at dawn, but it seemed that sportsmen were disappointed. The mild and clear conditions this morning were not in the best interests of sport, and had there been a gusty wind , the early risers probably would have hhd move opportunities of adding to their bngs. In the Waingake district the settlers are usually able to include game in their menu at this time of the year, but this morning only one gun was heard in that locality. Just beyond the ranges is the boundary «J the Wairoa district, in-which the season does not’open until June, and it is thought that, the game has: moved south into t hat section.
There' were a large number of guns in the Uepongaere district and it is understood that several fair bags were obtained by parties operating there. A report from Tiniroto stated that the shooting was poor. There were, several guns out, but the lings were small.
