HOUSING SHORTAGE

POSITION AT OPOTIKI Tlie question of housing in the Opotiki Borough was referred to in a .letter received from the Director of Housing at the monthly meeting of the Opotiki Borough Council. Directions were given concerning a survey. Mr. T. G. Johnson said there was a definite shortage of houses in Opotiki. There were 31 applicants for one house that, was to let. Lie had heard complaints concerning the condition of some houses. ■On the motion of Mr. Johnson, the council appointed a committee to make an inspection of houses and report. It was resolved to write to the Government asking for a relaxation of the restrictions concerning the financing of the erection of houses.
