GISBORNE RECEIPTS WELL ABOVE LAST YEAR BIG FIGURES FOR APRIL Revenue collected for Iho State through the Gisborne office of the Customs Department during April again assumed big figures, £4419 being collected in ordinary customs, £llffi> in beer excise, and £1369 in sales tax. The figures for April were well ahead of those of the same month in 1936, in all three of the main divisions of taxation levied from the local office, and the customs figure was actually ahead of that for March of this vear—an unusual occurrence. Details of collections for the first four months of 1937, with the figures for the same months of last year for comparison, are given below:

CHRISTCHURCH RETURNS (Per Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, last night. Customs revenue collected at Christchurch during April shows a big increase over that for April last year, more than maintaining the increase in receipts for the financial year ended March 31. The increase in revenue for that year was £314.142, but the figures for April, 1937, exceed by £41,410 those for April, 1936. The figures are as follows:
