"SAVE THE MOTHERS"
IN BRITAIN MORTALITY j3I¥ES ALARM EXpERTS TO PLAN; ACTION (Elec. Tel. Copyright—United Press Assn.) (Rood. April 29. 1.50 p.m.) LONDON. April 28. An important, new "save the mothers" campaign is announced by this Minister of Health, Sir Kingslcy Wood, following the publication of a White Taper embodying the report of committees of investigation into maternal mortality. The report states that attempted abortions apparently are frequent and increasing and are responsible Tor a number of deaths;' The '.Minister, "therefore, decided on the immediate appointment of a committee of medical and legal experts, with Mr. Norman Bipkett, JC.p., as chairman, to consider steps to reduce mortality from this cause.
Another pleasure w'ill be the provision of flying squads of 'skilled hospital workers to attend women .who are too ill to bo removed from their homes. The report, also urges further research into the. possible influence' of diet on child-bearing.
