MALAGA ATROCITIES
TORTURE OF PRISONERS THG USANDS EXECUTED LONDON, March 1. Rebel allegations of atrocities committed in Malaga, when that city was under Government control, are published in Lisbon. These state that 5000 persons were executed, and that members of the women’s militia “inflicted torture on prisoners.” Senor Isidro Millan, former president of the People’s Tribunal, is alleged to have confessed that 50 per cent of the people executed had never been tried. The rebels also claim that two English members of the International Brigade deserted to them by dashing across noman's land and waving handkerchiefs. Seventy militiamen were stated to have deserted during the counter-attack on Carabanchel, near Madrid, thus leading to stricter supervision of this force.
