DIFFICULTIES OF DUTIES BUSINESS FIRMS COMPARED LONDON, Feb. 21. “Bishops are paid a compliment when compared with branch managers of a multiple store.” writes Dr. Wilson, Bishop of Chelmsford, in a letter to his diocese.
“Such stores give good value and are efficient. Branch-manager bishops are needed in at least half of the Knglish dioceses.
"Bishops have loss power now than 50 years ago. Church legislation lias seen to that.
“If bishops do not speak out, they are asked why they do not give a lead. If they do, howls of indignation arise - 'Why don’t they mind their own business. V
"If Bank managers were paid a salary covering all the overhead costs of the bank premises, cashiers, and clerks' salaries, and messengers and servants, if would appear that they wore rich men. “Yet that is how bishops are paid.”
