Tho winner of the first prize in the “Landed at Last” art union is Mr. Alfred Clarke, a dairy farmer, of Anion, who claims to have had a ticket in every national art union conducted in New Zealand, but says he. never lad ore lias won even a small prize. He described his fortune as a great stroke of luck, and said ho intended to divulge his plans to nobody. Me. Clarke, has been a resident, ol South Taranaki for 43 years, all spout dairy fanning. “I’m just a plain dairy farmer.” lie said, “and n blooming hard-up one till now.”
