TOLAGA BAY NEWS

MANGATUNA SCHOOL PICNIC AND DANCE (Herald Correspondent.) On Saturday the Mnngatuna Native School picnic was held in the school grounds, there being a representative gathering of parents and others interested in the school. Lunch and afternoon tea were provided for the children, and the parents partook of an excellent meal prepared in the hangi. Games and races occupied the children’s attention all day. In the evening a dance arranged ty the school committee was held in the Hinemaurea meeting-house. The meetinghouse, which lately had been renovated and relined, looked very bright with decorations of coloured streamers.

Music was supplied by Mrs. B. Huaki. Mrs. K. McLean and Mr. W. Henry, and extras were contributed by Miss Karini. Tho sweet voices of the Maori children were heard to advantage in several choruses. Messrs. 11. Goldsmith and S. Tautau assisted as M.C.s.

Vocal numbers were rendered during the evening by Mesdatnes Keelan and Hautapu, duet, Mr. and Mrs. Huaki, duet, Mr. Lockwood, solo, Messrs. Tautau and Tautau, duet. An enjoyable supper was served by Hie school committee, assisted by ladies of the district. Among those present were Mesdamcs
