Mr. J. M. Downie is leaving Gis borne on Saturday evening for Auck land, en route to Australia.

The condition of Mr. Chris Walsh, Makaraka, who underwent an operation at the Cook Hospital on Tuesday, is reported to be satisfactory. Passengers by East Coast Airways' planes between Napier and Gisborne yesterday included Mesdames L. T. Burnard, R. Wilson, C. Lyndon, A. Morris and E. M. Monckton; Misses A. Morton, B. Goldicutt, A. Lyndon, and P. Monckton; Messrs. R. L. Machu, V. C. Martin, R. W. Burnard, O. Hansen, D. Blake, L. Balfour, 1"). A. Ballantyne, D. G. Grav, J, W. Otene, J*. McLean, R. Wilson, N. A. Wilton, and R. Matthews.

A fine record of 31 years.' service with the Nelson Garrison Band by Mr. W. W. Lock, which was marked this year by his winning the bass drum solo in the New Zealand contest, was recognised by his fellow bandsmen at the demonstration concert at Trafalgar Park, Nelson. The president of the New Zealand Brass Bands Association, Mr. E. Palliser, presented Mr, Lock with a gold watch on behalf of past and present members of the Nelson Garrison Band.

Mr. F. G. Parroll, president of the Automobile Association (Auckland), Mr. A. Dignan, a member of the executive council, Mr. G. W. Hutchison, secretary, Mr. R. E. Cl'aniptaloup, touring manager, and two members of the office staff of the touring department of the association will meet the resident A.A. patrol, Mr. D. M. McGregor, at Opotiki to-morrow evening and leave on Saturday morning to make a tour of inspection of tho East Coast scenic route to Gisborne, via Cape Runaway. Tho party expects to arrive in Gisborne on Sunday afternoon. The object of the tour is to obtain data of the route so that the information may be passed on to members desirous of making the trip round the coast.
