BLOOD TEST USELESS
SAMPLE AT AUCKLAND CHAR 0 E 0 F INTOXICA TI ON MOTORIST FINED £2O (Per Press Association.) WELLINGTON, last night. The hearing of tlio ca.se against Wil.iam Cordon East, aged 29, a motor mechanic, who was charged with being intoxicated while in charge of a car on January lid, concluded this afternoon. The defendant was lined £2O, and hi.s driving license was suspended for the present term and was cancelled for 12 months beginning with the new license year. This was the case in which it was stated that a blood sample had been taken. Actually the sample was not tested, however, for it was taken at the Auckland Hospital after 2 o’clock in the morning- and the blood was not in a' suitable condition later when the test was about to be made. Counsel said Dr. A. A. Huse was so satisfied that The defendant was sober that he advised him to submit to a blood test. “My impression was that he was not under the influence of alcohol," said Dr. Huse,’in evidence. The witness explained that, when he had communicated with the Auckland Hospital that night, he had been informed that thoy could make the test next morning. However, the, hospital rang him up stating that the test had not been made the previous night and the sample was then no good. The case was heard before Mr. C. R. Walker, S.M.
