The unusual sight of n telegraph pole aflame at the top portion was seen on the Mountain road, Midhirsl, just before midnight recently, it is thought that a spark from a railway locomotive caused the fire, and that 'the pole had been smouldering for some hours.

Amongst the cargo landed by the s.s. Knrtigi at Gisborno yesterday was a 16ft. boat built in Auckland to the order ot Mr. A. M. White, Ngate.pa, tor fishing at Wailtaremoann. The boat is ol ait open rowing bout design with the forepart raised and completely decked .n----forming a spacious locker lor carrying camping and other gear. The stein ol the craft is constructed to take an outboard motor, and when launched at the lake a 4-4 U.p. engine will be fitted. The bout was loaded on a Numer-Gisboi'iie transport lorry and dispatched for the lake. Mr. White is looking forward to spending March at Waikaromoaim.
