AWARD OF BARONETCY
NEW YEAR HONOURS BELIEVED EX-KIN&'S WISH LONDON. Feb. 2. In the announcement of the Now Year honours, ihcre was at trust one significant echo from the brief reign of Edward VIII. This was the granting of a baronetcy to Mr. Percy Malcolm Stewart, formerly Special "Areas Commissioner for England and Wales. Mr. Stewart's report on the distressed areas was rejected by the Prime Minister, Mr. Baldwin. Edward Vlll, shortly before he abdicatcdj personally consulted Mr. Stewart during his tour of South Wales. • All other awards indicate why the recipients were honoured. It is significant, however, that no reason was igiven for Mr. Stewart's baronetcy, lit is understood, however, that he was honoured by lung George VJ, because His Majesty believed .that King j.dward ATI! intended to make tlio award.
