PARK IN RANGES
AUCKLAND PROPOSAL CENTENNIAL CELEBRATIONS , The attitude of the Government toward the proposal to establish a national park in the Waitakere Manges as part of Auckkind's proposed centennial celebrations was explained by the Mnustcr of Lands and Minister in charge ol Scenic Reserves, the Hon. F. Langstone. at a conference in Auckland. Tho Minister, who was attended by departmental officers, said, that, any money found for the proposed park would bo part, of the Government's contribution to the cost of Auckland S centennial celebrations, so that the more money the local bodies and citizens could I contribute, towards the park object the more wouVd bo available for the general celebrations. Uo'ports by departmental officers had shown him that there was about 9000 acre's that could, bo acquired. Some of (this contained millablo hush, and if they rweire to stop milling it would be a costly hbnsiin'es's, lie thought that with regard to; some areas it might be possible to come to some arrangement under which the unliable timber could be taken out without muck damage to the rest and tin* a allow the bush to regenerate, which it •would do fdirly quickly.
