CRISIS LOOMING

ALBERTA SOCIAL CREDIT

FANTASTIC SITUATION

VANCOUVER, -Tan. 30

.Mr. Charles Cocltroft, Treasurer ol: the province of Alberta, has resigned, making the third defection within a fortnight from Mr. Aborhart'a Credit Cabinet.

The Cabinet is rapidly losing its orthodox members, and Mr. Chant. the Minister for Agriculture, is expected to resign ou Monday. Mr. John Hargrave, British Social Credit expert, who was recently hailed by Aborhart as his "Number One Technical Advisor," quit in disgust Inst week, declaring that Aborhart's Communistic programme had not the first elements of Social Credit within it, and could not possibly succeed. "The situation in Alberta has become so fantastic that it is almost beyond belief," said Mr. Hargrave before leading for London. Mr. Aborhart will meet the Legislature iu session on February 25, and unless his administration collapses before that time, he will have to face demands from the left-wingers, now apparently in control, for drastic enactments, including monthly dividends for every Social Credit, citizen, and legislation designed to coerce dissenting minorities who may oppose sucli measures of confiscation as radical members contemplate. Many of the wealthier citizens of Alberta have already transferred their holdings to other provinces of Canada.
