One of the most representative gatherings along the west coast was held at Patea on Monday to celebrate the Patea County Council’s diamond jubilee. As well as being one of the parent counties in the Taranaki district—it was set up immediately after the abolition of provincial government in 1876—it is the oldest in New Zealand. Its record of growth since its infancy was unfolded at a complimentary luncheon at which about 150 guests, including a strong contingent of pioneers, attended.
