CARD EVENING
(Herald Correspondent.)
A very enjoyable- evening of “hurricane” bridge was held at the home of Mrs.' J. L. Grant, Hautanoa in honour of Miss Johnson, who is leaving, shortly to take, up a new position in Wellington. The prize for the highest score "'as won by Mrs. S. Doig, and Miss N. I,radio annexed another prize. The draw, ing-room was very artistically decorated with bowls of blue hydrangeas. At the conclusion of cards, Mrs. Grant presented the guest of honour with a large assortment of beautiful handkerchiefs, which had been given by the guests. Miss Johnson thanked her friends for their kindness and hoped to see thern in Wellington. The hostess served a savoury supper.
Among tlio3e present were Mesdames ,T. L. Grant, J. Todd, hi. Oates. G. Chalmers, J. B. Stafford, il. It. Short, R. Oates, S. Doig, J. Riddell, and 11. D. Gardner : Misses Johnson. K. Oates. D. Pepper. D. Conole, I. Conole, B. Doig, ,and N. Brodie.
Miss 0. Ransley, Hautanoa, was a week-end visitor to Gisborne. —Master 11. Conole, Tokomaru Bay, lias been staying with Master E. Gardner, Gisborne. —Masters Bobby and Roger Corcoran, Gisborne, are staying with Mrs. G. Chalmers, Hautanoa. —Miss E. Oates has arrived home from a holiday spent in Napier and Hastings.—Mr. W. Horton has returned from a holiday spent in Hawke’s Bay.—Miss Thomas, Gisborne, has been staying with Miss Johnson, Tokomaru Bay, for a few days.
