Asked in the House of Commons to give the. number of treaty engagements under which His Majesty’s Government in tiie United Kingdom had undertaken liabilities in which they agreed to supply armed forces to protect the territories of the Arab rulers of the Persian Gulf, the Under-Secretary for India, Mr. R. A. Butler, replied: “The Arab States of Ivoweit, Bahrein, Qutar. and the adjoining coast are in treaty relations with 11 is Majesty’s Government under which they enjoy, in varying degree, His Majesty’s protection.,”
