NEGRO OLYMPIC STAR PROVIDES FOR PARENTS CLEVELAND, Dec, 2. The Alabama-born parents of Jesse Owens, negro Olympic star, received to-day a share of the sprinter's £IO,(XXI earnings since his return from Germany. The. Jhegro bought Cleveland and Emma Owens an 11-room house—hardwood floors, up-to-the-minute plumbing fixtures and double garage. The modest parents said the gift represented comforts they never had dreamed of in plantation days. In the 1936 Olympics, Owens captured three individual events and shared in the United States relay team’s victory. lie said he had "earned about £10,000" since the Olympics. Of this £BOOO is in a trust fund. He would not discuss his earnings in detail. Owens said lie would go to Hollywood soon to fulfil radio and motion picture contracts.
.Marty Forkins, his manager, predicted that Owens’ Olympic feats would net at least £20,000.
