MILK FOR SCHOOLS
DEPARTMENT’S SCHEME ORGANISER IN SOUTH IS. The Health Department, has decided that only pasteurised milk will be used m the scheme which is being organised ior the distribution of milk to school children. The milk must be supplied in bottles, or in some other form of container. The cost of the scheme will *.e borne by the department, and contracts will be let tor the supply o'f milk in each centre. Mr. W. A. Cowell, of the Health Department, has been appointed to organise the scheme. His mission is to obtain information relative to the requirements of the schools in each district and to explain the objects of the scheme, preparatory to the formation of a local committee in each centre for administration purposes. He is now visiting the South Island.
The proposal- has been favourably received in the cities, and when arrangements have been completed the organisation work will be extended to the smaller towns and country districts. It is hoped to have the scheme ready for operation in tune for the winter.
